Yulia Santos
B.S. student, Biology, University of Puerto Rico Cayey
Yulia is an intern in the Summer Systematics Institute. She is currently working on the conservation genomics of Puerto Rican Coquí frogs. Her research centers on the Mountain Coquí (Eleutherodactylus portoricensis), investigating its genetic diversity and evolutionary history. By identifying patterns of genetic differentiation across the frog’s populations, this project will provide valuable insights for the recovery of this endangered species. As part of the project, she is working with existing genomic datasets and gaining hands-on experience in bioinformatics, population genetics, and phylogenetic analysis. With a strong interest in ecology and a growing passion for herpetology, Yulia plans to pursue graduate studies and continue contributing to the conservation of wildlife and biodiversity.
