Postdocs: We have several fellowship opportunities for sponsoring postdocs in the Bell Lab through the Smithsonian Institution fellowships. These include the Smithsonian Institution Fellowship Program and Peter Buck Fellowship Program (applicants should apply through the Evolutionary + Systematic Biology committee), the National Museum of Natural History Global Genome Initiative Buck Postdoctoral Fellowships, the Smithsonian Biodiversity Genomics Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, and the James Smithson Fellowship (history, memory and authenticity focus for 2018). We are also happy to discuss other options for sponsoring postdocs such as the National Science Foundation Biology Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Biology (which currently has a focus on biological collections) and other fellowships.
Graduate students: The Bell Lab is not currently affiliated with a graduate program and Rayna cannot formally advise graduate students; however, she enjoys hosting visiting students at the NMNH! Students can apply for support through the Smithsonian Institution Fellowships Program to visit the lab for 10 weeks (graduate fellows, pre- or post-candidacy) or up to one year (predoctoral fellows, post-candidacy).
Undergraduate students: The National Museum of Natural History offers 10-week summer research internships for undergraduate students funded by the National Science Foundation. Visit the Natural History Research Experience website for details on how to apply.
